Cycling enthusiasts participated in a rally across Kolkata’s Maidan on Monday morning to mark World Bicycle Day. The rally started from the northern gate of the Victoria Memorial and passed through various points in the Maidan area.
The event aimed to raise awareness among the younger generation about cycling as a healthy and environment-friendly mode of transport. Everest summiteers Debashis Biswas and Malay Mukhopadhyay joined the rally to support the initiative. They rode alongside other cyclists through the Maidan, promoting physical fitness and clean mobility.
“To relieve stress in today’s fast-paced world, pedaling a bicycle can help,” said Debashis Biswas during the rally. The cyclists appealed to citizens to use bicycles more frequently to reduce air pollution in Kolkata. They also highlighted the need to encourage daily cycling habits among youth as a sustainable lifestyle choice.
